How Imam Malik Would Teach Hadith

An Excerpt from the series, ‘The Madinan Society: A Tafsir of Surat al-Hujurat’ – Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester (UK)

Imam Malik ibn Anas, the Imam of Medina, would rarely joke or laugh and he was known for his composure when teaching the words of Allah and his Rasool ﷺ. He would bathe and often instruct that the area is fragranced with bukhoor before starting to teach.

Once a man approached Imam Malik and asked him about a hadith while walking. Imam Malik scolded the man for asking about hadith in such a casual manner, rather it should be discussed in a respectful gathering. This shows the amount of respect and awe he showed to the words of the Messenger ﷺ.

Find out more about this great Imam and teacher of the people of Medina in this excerpt from our upcoming series: The Madinan Society – A Tafsir of Surat al-Hujurat.
