One of the goals of tazkiya is to annihilate one’s nafs before one’s death. We should realise that in order to extinguish the nafs and thereby to be instilled with sublime qualities, much sacrifice has to be made. We will have to tolerate some pain (to the nafs) in doing so; only then can we reach the goals we aspire to in religion.
[This short excerpt is based on a brothers’ majlis (gathering for spiritual training) held by Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq on 26th April 2000].
asalamalaikum.would like to make a request please-the topic,above-so important, yet the information, posted with it-so minimal.I could be mistaken, but there isn’t a recording that deals specifically with the above topic. Therefore,it would help if more information could perhaps,be posted,please-jzk.
Walaikum salaam. Jazakumullahu khairan for your comment. Our posts are normally just very short reminders and thought-provoking excerpts that have been collated from the majalis that our respected Shaykh has held over the years (rather than detailed notes). We do hope to add some audio on this site from select majalis in the near future insha’Allah which we hope will be beneficial and provide more detail for a given topic. Talks by the Shaykh which are related to this post i.e. about sacrifice include ‘Sacrifice: The Sunnah of the Ambiyah عليهما السلام’, Steadfastness in the face of Adversity, and ‘Me, myself and I’. Finally, the Shaykh has delivered a whole series of lectures each of which deal with specific diseases of the heart and their remedies – these include anger, envy, backbiting, slander, malice, arrogance and suspicion.
asalamalaikum Admin, jzk for ur reply, that does help a lot,and also would like to apologise.ws.
walaikum salaam – no need to apologise! We appreciate your comments and continued support of this project. Jazakumullahu khairan.
