Before becoming the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, Hind bint Abi Umayya, also known as Umm Salama had to undergo one of the most peculiar experiences of emigrating from Makkah to Medina. When she was about to perform the hijrah, her husband and her son were both separated from her due to tribal connections. This separation lasted for a year and every morning Umm Salamah would go out to the plains of Makkah and weep from morning till evening.

Eventually one of her own family members took pity on her and they made an effort to reunite her with her son. They did not provide her with support to complete her hijrah and reunite with her then husband, so Umm Salama embarked on this journey alone with her baby son.

Find out in this excerpt the sacrifices made by the family of Umm Salama and how she performed her hijrah without anyone there to take her.
