Over the next few posts, we will elaborate briefly on the points mentioned in ‘Constancy in 8 Things‘.
Constancy in purity and worship means that one’s external purity is reflected in one’s inner self. One should strive to be in a perpetual state of wudhu, especially one who seeks to reach the rank of ihsaan. Wudhu is also the weapon of a believer.
In attaining constancy in fasting one should eat moderately at the time of suhoor and iftaar and curb the nafs. Further, one should eat only enough to quench one’s hunger and anything more is over-indulgence.
[This short excerpt is based on a brothers’ majlis (gathering for spiritual training) held by Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq on 11th March 2000].
Even though not mentioning in your posting, I would assume that “constancy in fasting” also refers to fast regularly (other than eat moderately), preferably fast on every Monday and Thursday. Am I right? Please advise.
Constancy in fasting does indeed refer to fasting regularly throughout the year as you mention. This short post states the additional point that when fasting e.g. in Ramadhan (as well as when keeping optional fasts) a person should eat moderately at sahoor and iftaar.
