The Great Ḥāfiẓ of Ḥadīth Sayyidunā Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh Part 2 of 2
Delivered by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on  Friday 17th May 2024 at Al Kawthar Academy, Leicester

This second part deepens the portrayal of Sayyidunā Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh (ra) by focusing on his life of service, simplicity, and deep attachment to the Prophet ﷺ. Through numerous incidents – such as the fulfilment of the Prophet’s promise by Abū Bakr (ra), the Prophet’s personal care during illness, and the well-known miracle of feeding hundreds from a small meal – the talk shows how Jābir’s (ra) life was filled with barakah due to sincerity and devotion. His complete adherence to the Sunnah in even small matters, like eating simple food or walking in battles, reflects a life shaped entirely by imitation of the Prophet ﷺ. His participation in campaigns after Uhud and his eagerness to serve, despite hardship, further highlight his commitment and sincerity.

The talk then shifts into a powerful reflection on the nature of knowledge in Islam. It argues that true ʿilm is not mere information or speech, but a spiritual light embodied through humility, service, and character. Using examples from Jābir’s (ra) life and later scholars, the talk explains how knowledge is transmitted through companionship, respect for teachers, and personal transformation, forming a continuous chain back to the Prophet ﷺ.

The session concludes by warning against modern misunderstandings of knowledge as superficial learning, stressing instead that true scholarship requires immersion in a tradition of sincerity, discipline, and ethical refinement – qualities exemplified by Jābir (ra) and the early generations.
