Our religion has a lot to teach us about love. Once a person becomes immersed in the love of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and His Rasul صلى الله عليه وسلم, nothing else means anything at all as the person reaches such a degree of imaan that he actually tastes the sweetness of imaan. How can this be achieved? Not from books but only from those people who themselves are immersed in the love of Allah سبحانه وتعالى ; sit with them and the love of Allah سبحانه وتعالى which is found in their hearts will find its way to you. You will be painted with the same love of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and His Rasul صلى الله عليه وسلم. This can only happen in pious company and by placing oneself in the care and in the servitude of our elders and our ulama (scholars) and those who have already experienced the love of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and who daily taste the sweetness of imaan.
[This short excerpt is based on the talk ‘Love in Islam’ which was delivered by Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq on 20th March 2005 in South Africa. For a more comprehensive understanding of this topic please refer to that lecture].
asa,i feel it’s quite difficult to reach this very sublime state.everyone doesn’t have access to “pious company”,exactly.i just about manage to keep my head above water, being in my surroundings.still,i aspire towards this, but at times,it seems impossible that i can even come close to this state.
as-wr-wb, I totally relate to the above quote. I would love to be in the company of such pious people 24/7, but in reality it’s not possible to do so!!! Although I do try my best to keep in the company of those people who are aware of Islamic values, ws-wr-wb.
It is difficult to be around such people all the time but I think that would be almost impossible for most of us? Being in the company of such people even for a short while has great benefits. SubhanAllah the love from their hearts really does permeate our souls. We should try our hardest to search out for such people so that we too can be painted by the love they have for Allah and Rasulullah Salallaahu Alayhi Wasallam.
asa,jzk umm ibrahim,ur advice makes a lot of sense.i’ve also come to realise that it is beneficial to analyse the company before spending time with them.i’m not quoting verbatim, but i seem to remember Shaykh mentioning in a recording-“it’s better to be in solitude than to be in bad company, and it’s far better to be in good company than being in solitude.”it occured to me,that listening to a recording on any topic would be “like being in pious company”,as oppose to uselessly chatting on the phone.if a habit is made of this,”deen” begins to seep through-slowly but surely, alhumdulilah!ws.
Very nice! N that is so true, The love for Allah and our prophet [p.b.u.h] must be more than anything and anyone else.
True words from Sheikh.
Supplicate to ALLAH SWA for the pious and humble to cross your path… 🙂
