Full talk: The Prophet’s ﷺ Triumph over Hearts

Safwan ibn Umayyah was extremely wealthy which gave him great power amongst the elders of the Arabs. His father, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, was killed in the Battle of Badr causing Safwan to retaliate more against the Muslims. When the conquest of Makkah took place, Safwan fled from the city out of fear for his life and headed towards the coastline in order to commit suicide.

Umayr ibn Wahb, the cousin of Safwan who had previously embraced Islam, interceded to the Prophet ﷺ on behalf of Safwan and requested to follow him in order to bring him back. The Prophet ﷺ granted him permission and gave him one of his garments to convince Safwan of his safety if he returns. Umayr ibn Wahb was able to find his cousin at the port and brought him back so that he may live among the Muslims and come to a decision.

Find out how the leniency and generosity of the Prophet ﷺ transformed the heart of Safwan ibn Umayyah, which lead him to eventually embrace Islam.
